I've slowly been chipping away at a long list of books that were recommended by a librarian friend of mine. After really enjoying the first novel in this trilogy, I was eager to pick up the sequel and wasn't disappointed.Taking place one year after the events of "Dragon Slippers", Creel is now a successful seamstress and royal dressmaker. But her happy and semi-normal life is, once again, turned upside down when she receives word that a neighboring country is preparing to invade her homeland....with the help of an army of dragons. Determined to find out why the usually-peaceful dragons would suddenly team up with humans to go on the attack, Creel assembles a team of her friends to launch an investigation. But what they discover is a conspiracy that'll shake the foundations of a nation to its core, and whether they win or lose this oncoming war will determine the fate of human/dragon relations forever.
While I normally prefer science fiction over 'sword and sorcery' fantasy, it's books like these that make me more enthusiastic about checking out other stories in the genre. This book is the perfect middle ground for readers who don't want something too simplistic, but also feel that huge epics like "Harry Potter" are too daunting a task. It strikes the perfect balance of having a plot filled with suspense, world building, and a touch of political intrigue, but doesn't make things so complicated that younger readers won't get what's going on. This time around, we get to meet even more dragons and learn more about their culture and history, especially when the real villain behind the oncoming war is revealed. The plot contains plenty of twists and turns, with quite a bit of time spent with our heroes doing straight up spy work, including learning new languages, sneaking around, and wearing disguises.
All the main characters from the first book are back in full force. Creel's friend and business partner, Marta, gets to have her own moments of bad ass-ery, and Prince Luka is given more to do. His budding romance with Creel is adorable, and one of the most natural and well written relationships I've come across in fiction. And just like before, Creel remains a great heroine that plenty of girls can look up to---using her ingenuity and sewing skills in unique, creative ways to get her and her friends out of increasingly impossible situations.
With a bit of a happier ending than the previous installment, this is a great continuation of Creel's story, and this is fast becoming one of my favorite series in the fantasy genre. I can't wait to read the series' conclusion!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jessica Day George! I have all of her books and her Dragon Slipper trilogy is my favorite. it's even on my favorites shelf.
Creel and the others are back! Creel has settled into the lifestyle of a dressmaker... but not really. When her dragon friends need her help Creel jumps at the chance (especially since this will also take her to Prince Luka's side). It bring back old friends, and they make some new ones. This book is epic in so many ways with a compeling storyline and many funny parts. I suggest any books by this author.
I love this book, and the one before it, and I'm sure I will love the next! I'm feeling delighted after the last few words I just read, and usually I'm really nervous for the sequel to a good book, but this really didn't disappoint!
In Dragon Flight we have all kinds of dragons slaves or free. The king of dragons and his friend Creel must help. One does not learn to jump from a dragon.
When we last left our intrepid heroine, her common sense and skill with a sewing needle had just saved the Kingdom and her new friends- the dragons.
Now a new danger has arisen, which puts both groups in even more danger.
Can a young girl who is handy with a sewing needle and possesses an uncommon amount of common sense save the day again?
Will her proto-romance with the Prince take a more serious turn?
I am buying book Three soon.
Very good. This is one of my favorite books in this series. The ending is one of my favorite parts.
My daughter and I loved the first book and eagerly awaited the second, which can make it harder to enjoy if expectations are huge. This one does not disappoint! Plenty of action, character development flesh out an original and intriguing story line. Luka and Creel's relationship is a quiet thread throughout, but is challenged by other royal attention. Dragons are used for nefarious purposes...or are they? I hate to say anything about the plot because the less you know going into it, the better. Enrapturing for younger readers and enjoyable for adults as well, this book was wonderfully satisfying! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!
In Dragon Flight, the second book in the series of the Dragon Slippers stories, Creel has her hands full. She is making dresses for no less than two weddings, or three depending on how you count them, and not just for the brides! The king of her land is as curmudgeonly as ever and his favored adviser is equally abrasive, especially where her friends the dragons are concerned. The King and Queen of dragons still have their wounds from the First Dragon War to recover from, yet a Second Dragon War launches before they truly can. Our dragon king must face off with his brother, and our Creel must do what she can.
This book does not disappoint. Creel flowers even more and demonstrates that females can be the sort of heroin to save the day, not just are people that need rescuing. Her talent as a dressmaker comes into unexpected play when she has to help prepare Shardas for battle. Creel is the sort of young women that all young girls (and older ones) ought to be looking to for examples of strong female characters. I also particularly liked that although she winds up with three princes interested in her hand (not bad for a common lass) she doesn’t let it get to her head, and that she wouldn’t even if she weren’t worrying about more important things. I recommend this for anyone, and would love to see this made into an animated feature.
