Beyond Justice Cara C Putman 9780718083472 Books

This is one of the most addicting and riveting novels I’ve read in 2017! Cara Putman’s story has a plethora of various threads woven together to keep readers on the edge of their seats and turning pages. The action is fast-paced; the quest for justice and fighting evil is paramount. It isn’t easy to pinpoint the antagonist, but then again there might be more than one!
A lawyer named Hayden McCarthy works for a major law firm. Hayden is given cases that seem impossible to win; yet, Hayden tends to do just what isn’t expect from the opposite side of the courtroom to win. The case that will make or break Hayden’s career could also come at the cost of life. When other get involved, more people turn up hurt or dead. Andrew Wesley is a congressman’s only heir. Andrew wants nothing to do with politics. In fact, when readers learn what he likes to do it is unexpected. Yet Andrew also works with a non-profit organization to help legal immigrants get acclimated to a new culture with all its nuances. Neither Hayden nor Andrew have any time for relationships, however, that could change.
Cara brings into the story her vast knowledge of law, courtroom experience, and human nature along with faith to bring to life a most heart-gripping tale that I couldn’t put down! There were twists and turns when I least expected them along with characters that seemed to have multi-faceted agendas. As I went further and further into the tale, the more the author shared the heart and background of some of the players in her story. Some of the office politics between partners were filled with animosity or secrets that kept me wondering who was for justice and who was hiding what. I love how intense and focused Hayden could be and how Andrew honored his parents’ wishes, learning they did love him.
I hope the author plans on writing more tales that are in the legal thriller/suspense genre as it seems an awfully good fit for her talents. Don’t miss this exciting, nail-biting, heart-pounding story!

Stunning in its intensity, ‘Beyond Justice’ delivers breathtaking suspense, characters who know they need the Lord, and a bit of romance. The author, an excellent writer, takes a significant, current topic of which people have impassioned views and makes it real to the reader. To me, it will be one of the best Christian suspense novels released in 2017.

Hayden is a young attorney who won an unwinnable case. Her boss now assigns her a case that would change her life and the lives of her best friend, Emilie and Emilie’s cousin Andrew. A young man, Miguel, died at a juvenile facility for those under 18 who are caught crossing the border illegally. His mother came to Texas legally; they were suing for Miguel’s wrongful death.

Hayden’s firm denies her to going Texas for a deposition with the facility’s director. Miguel’s mom wants justice, but his father, who is footing the bill, won’t authorize expenses. There is no documentation of Miguel’s death; all Hayden has is a picture of the murdered boy and a copy of his death certificate. Her firm begins to fire people without reason, one dies mysteriously. Emilie helps research the case through her journalistic contacts. Hayden and Andrew find their mutual interest when Hayden sees that Miguel’s brother is part of a group at New Beginnings, where Andrew helps teens acclimate to their new country.

Hayden is amazing; I like her and Emilie, both complex ladies, the best, then Andrew. They are each open to the Lord’s leading. Andrew is the son of Congressman Scott Wesley who might be up for a vacant senate seat. One thing I could visualize through the author’s writing is Hayden’s sense of wonder when she and Andrew go to the festival of the cherry blossoms.

Two favorite things are how the main characters pray and how their faith is a priority. When one disappears, that one trusts God for rescue, and the others pray and seek the missing one. Another thing I like is how each of the three have their eyes and hearts opened as a result of the case and working with each other, and how the author’s descriptions demonstrate underlying themes.

‘Beyond Justice’ is intriguing, rife with spine-tingling tension that sometimes borders on panic. Plot twists stun the reader with what is revealed and what is still enshrouded. I enjoyed seeing Hayden’s mind work in determining the best legal routes to use while seeing the real people she serves. She knows she can make a difference with this case by getting justice for the boy. A pivotal question, further opening my eyes, was when a guard at the juvenile facility asked Hayden if her concern is about all the boys in the facility, or only about the one who died. He reminds her that the ones who are alive are the ones who need help. Hayden gets it.

What surprises me most are the many facets of the crimes and the many people involved. We are introduced to the person who murdered Miguel and why, and his continued search for a missing item. He grieves the killing, yet is scared of ‘el jefe’. The end is incredibly satisfying, with no loose ends. This reader is looking forward to the author’s next in series! I highly, highly recommend ‘Beyond Justice’ to those who appreciate novels including Christian values, suspense, and ideas that open the reader’s mind about their stand on various hot topics.

From a grateful heart I received this eBook from NetGalley and this is my honest review.
"I've heard this case is a loser, so if you turn it around you'll be a hero."

Hayden McCarthy is at a point in her law career where winning one more big case could catapult her into a partnership within the law firm where she has already managed to excel. Except that the case her boss hands her has all the markings of career implosion; for she will have to force the federal government to have to defend its actions, or lack thereof, within a Texas juvenile detention center for illegal immigrants. A young man died there, and the deeper Hayden digs, the more complicated the story becomes.

Andrew Wesley loves ingratiating young immigrants into American society, spending time daily directing various activities at the "New Beginnings" community center where he works. In the evenings however, Andrew uses his quick wit and inside knowledge of politics, as the son of a powerful politician, to create satirical cartoons under the pen name, Roger Walters. When his cousin Emilie, who just happens to be Hayden's apartment mate, introduces the two, Andrew is intrigued with the lovely attorney, but even he could never have drawn out the path ahead, which forces them both into the epicenter of international crime.

"Beyond Justice"is a page turner, and will be a favorite among appreciating fans of well-written legal suspense.
