The irony is there is a true megalomaniac not unlike Horemheib who wants to bend the world especially our country to his whim. Instead of killing he just fires people. I very much enjoyed this book. Elliot Baker creates characters that I cared about, and a story that really stimulated my imagination. Like the first book, I had trouble putting this book down once I began. It's an epic, historical adventure story pitting good against evil, taking place in exotic locations on land and at sea. There are some interesting twists as to the history of the main characters. It all works. My only disappointment is that the final, third book is not out yet.
After following Rene from France to Spain to Morocco and back I am waiting with bated breath for the third book. This is an exciting series about 17th century Europe with Egyptian mysticism thrown in. Keep up the good writing.
The second book in the series is better than the first! I couldn't stop reading it. The author is great with his story line. The great thing about books is that you can have a great imagination with how characters and places look. But the author is so descriptive and detailed it brings the story to a whole different level. Halfway through this book I pre-ordered book 3. Without giving anything away there were a couple of twists in this book that I didn't see coming. But it made the storyline that much better. I feel like the characters and story in the book are based on real people.

Although well written I felt it was to long and with to much emphasis on the occult and fantasy! I enjoyed the first book in the series and Rene’s adventures!
An excellent sequel! Historical fiction can be amazing when done well, and this series is definitely well done. It has all the ingredients I love mastery, like the teachers/students from the best kung fu novels/movies, swash-buckling adventure, well crafted believable romance, heart wrenching internal conflict, plus obviously well researched historical details. Details which pull the reader deep into the story so you feel what it was like to be in those cultures, on those ships and lands in those times. Plus just the right touch of mysticism to add an epic feel. Excitedly awaiting book three!
Enjoyed book one, but all the meandering about the spiritual-mystic powers made it tough to continue reading. Started to skim to get through it and get back to the core story. I’m not into fantasy books and wanted more of the historical drama that I enjoyed in the prior book. Don’t now if I’ll do book three, though it has better reviews.
Elliott Baker's characters come alive off the pages as the scenes, described in vivid detail, take us back in time. The story of good vs evil through generations and incarnations is completely compelling. The author's wisdom shared in the thoughts and feelings of the heroes draws us in and holds us captivated as their lessons are timeless. Integrity and loyalty the essential elements of lives well lived. I simply couldn't put it down and I can't wait for Redemption!
