“Broken Notes” is the second novel in the Heavy Influence series and continues the rock n’ roll rollercoaster that is Jake and Alyssa’s relationship.

Alyssa and Jake are trying to overcome their insecurities and build a solid foundation for their growing relationship. But Alyssa is still having doubts about Jake and whether she wants to uproot her entire life and set on a path that will alter her future forever. Moving to New York and postponing her dreams is a big gamble on someone who tends to put her on the bottom of the list.
Jake wants to be with Alyssa more than anything, but his inability to deal with conflict starts to derail their new start almost before it begins. And just when it seems like he may be finally getting the life he craves, tragedy strikes and sends Jake on a downward spiral that may spell the end – of everything.

The series has a soap opera feel, but the author’s writing style makes it so much more. Jake, in my eyes, has very little redeeming qualities but the author is excellent at making him vulnerable and human. Things happen in life and these events shape us. The author isn’t afraid to show the consequences of the character’s actions. Life is messy and isn’t always tied up neatly with a bow. This is why I will always continue with the series – no matter how much I may want a happy ending.

The second novel is the fourth in the series if you count the novellas. It is best to read all of them in order and they are told in alternating points of view. Just a warning – the author leaves the reader hanging and desperate to one-click the next in the series.

Well she has done it again hard life for some is never ending and I for one hope that one day people won't have to have a hard life. In this book she captures so much heart ache, love, struggle and so on that I didn't know if I wanted to be happy or cry I love jake and aly but some of the things that happen between them ugh I all most couldn't take it their love is always their but will they ever be together they way they deserve is the million dollar question as in first kiss and fever pitch things secrets, lies, ex's and life get in they way and as they are trying to figure their life's out tragedy happens and makes it harder and they have to ask their self is love enough sometimes it sometimes it's not will they find out that's where you have to read the books cause I won't tell I hope that if you haven't read this trilogy that you do so its a awesome one and the author is just as awesome... This reader here can't wait till book 3 comes out.
Broken Notes is book 2 in the Heavy Influence series by Ann Marie Frohoff. I liked this book better than the previous parts. I still feel like each book is only a partial story, and wish it was all just one long book, instead of small parts. But, it keeps me coming back for more! The story continues with the on going Jake and Alyssa drama. The characters and their issues are real life, and I love that about Ann Marie's stories. I dont think of it as a character in a book, but can envision someone going through it. However, their characters behaviors in this story drove me nuts! There were several parts I wanted to just tell them to grow up, quit being selfish, quit being immature, etc. That aside, I still give this book a 5 star review. It kept my interest, and I didnt want to put it down!
Alyssa has no graduated high school, but doesnt fully know what to do with her life. She has decided to move to New York to live with Jake, and finally be together. However, she cant decide if she wants to go to school there for 4 years, or stay on the west coast and play volleyball at a top league school, who have offered her scholarships. She postponed for a semester, to give her time to figure life out with Jake and see what the future holds for them. She loves Jake, but is it enough? Will being with him mean giving up her own hopes and dreams? Is she willing to do that?
Jake is bigger than ever. He is a true rock star, booking tours as well as talk shows, and even SNL. His dreams are coming true, he is a successful musician, and finally has Aly by his side. However, nothing gold can stay, and things start to go wrong for Jake left and right. Family drama, long held secrets, sickness and death, and trust and communications with Aly are at a all time high. He doesnt understand why he isnt enough for her, and why she wont accept the life of a rock star girlfriend. Their lack of communication is worse than ever, and causes more issues than ever before. Can he be enough for Aly? Can he keep himself strong and sober when weights are constantly being stacked on his shoulders? Is her love enough to go on?
We made it, we are finally at the point where Jake and Aly begin to build their life together. It's old because they have known each other forever. It's new because they are finally together. They are living together in New York and going with the flow. They are enjoying their time together alone.

There is a death and it rocks Jake's world. One tragedy leads to another and Jake seems to be headed in the wrong direction. Now comes the questions and the doubts. Jake and Aly both are having doubts on how this relationship will work. Aly does not want to forget her dreams or give up on them. After all this time and all the things they have been through will it all end now?

Oh my goodness this book was awesome. I could not put it down until I was finished. There is so much heart ache, distrust, infidelity and abuse. There is substance abuse but I am glad Ann makes it painfully aware of the reality of the abuse and how it can destroy multiple lives.

Love, what is it worth to you? Would you let all of your dreams slip from your grasp for love? How much of yourself and your life are you willing to sacrifice in the name of love? Are you willing to stay with someone who has been unfaithful to you multiple times? These are some of the questions that Aly must ask herself.

For me this book was so intense and raw. It unravels young love from going up, to trying to create an adult life together. The hardships they face are relatable to everyone if not myself. I love Jake and Aly's story. I have my seatbelt buckled and I am waiting for the rest of this ride.
